Ramadan treat: Malayalam Movies

In terms of minting money at boxoffice, Ramadan is next only to Onam. And the Malayalam film industry is all set to celebrate Ramadan in style.

'Thejabhai and family', 'My dear Kuttichathan' in new avatar, 'Sevenes' and 'Pranayam' would be released this weekend. Eyeing the Ramadan market, director Siddique's debut Bollywood venture, the Salman-starrer 'Bodyguard', will also go on the floors Wednesday.

Though Blessy's Pranayam has superstar Mohanlal teaming up with Jayapradha and Anupam Kher, its offbeat treatment distances the film from those conventional larger-than-life superstar flicks. The other biggie Mammootty, who is yet to deliver a blockbuster this year, has no new films for the season.

Dileep's Mr. Marumakan, which was earlier slated as an Onam release, too has been postponed.

That said, Prithviraj and co. are the ones who are likely to bask in limelight this festive season. According to trade experts, any big film that releases during this period is sure to draw 20 % more audience.

Director Deepu Karunakaran's romcom 'Tejabhai and family', all set to be released on Ramadan day, has Prithviraj playing the lead role of an underworld don. The digitalised version of 'My dear Kuttichathan' would also hit screens August 30.

Yet another Ramadan release, 'Sevenes' set in the backdrop of a football match, has Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Kumar and Nivin Pauly playing lead. Bhavana and Rima Kallingal hold the heroine seats.

Mohanlal's Maxlab Cinemas ensures that the battle is worth a watch with the release of its Kunchakko starrer 'Dr. Love.'
